Angel Elderkin's Mountaineers have started the season undefeated at home (3-0) and are looking for their first road win of the young campaign.
In their last game,
Faith Alston and
Janay Sanders scored 15 points apiece as the Mountaineers overcame a one-point halftime deficit to outscore Winston-Salem State 50-17 in the second half for a winning tally of 81-49.
Wednesday's game is the fourth in a string of five straight App State opponents from the state of North Carolina. The Mountaineers will not travel outside their home state again until Sun Belt play starts on Dec. 30 at South Alabama.
NOTABLES:
• As a team, the guard-heavy App State squad leads the Sun Belt with 8.6 3-pointers made per game (38th in the nation) and is third in the league with 12.8 steals per game (23rd in the nation). The Mountaineers have attempted the third-most 3-pointers of any team in the country – 170 through five games.

Janay Sanders leads the team with 13.6 ppg, including a career-high 22 at Mercer.

Faith Alston is second on the team with 11.8 points per game and leads the team with 3.0 assists per game in a team-high 28.8 minutes played per outing.

• App State and Duke will meet for the 14th time and the first time since 1993. Duke leads the series 10-3, with App State wins coming in the 1977-78 (twice) and 1978-79 seasons.
• App State will be trying to snap Duke's streak of 64 consecutive wins versus non-conference teams from the state of North Carolina.
• Coached by WNBA and Olympic champion Kara Lawson, Duke is 4-0 with wins over Winthrop, Davidson, UNC Wilmington and Alabama. Celeste Taylor paces the Blue Devils with 14.8 points per game, including a season-high 21 in their last outing vs. Alabama.
