BOONE, N.C. — App State Wrestling is hosting a marquee early season tournament Sunday with the arrival of the Mountaineer Invitational.
Seven teams are scheduled to participate, with the Big Ten, Pac-12, ACC, Big 12, MAC and Southern Conference all represented. Competition in Varsity Gym is scheduled to begin on six mats at 9 a.m., with doors opening to fans at 8 a.m., and live scoring will be available through FloArena.

In addition to App State, which returns seven NCAA qualifiers from last season, Arizona State has the nation's eighth-ranked team. There will also be wrestlers from Indiana, Air Force, Duke, Kent State and Gardner-Webb — Illinois is no longer participating in the event.
There are 24 wrestlers with top-32 preseason rankings from Intermat scheduled to compete, highlighted by four ranked wrestlers (and five returning NCAA qualifiers) at 149 pounds, including 2021 All-Americans from App State (
Jonathan Millner) and Arizona State (Fresno State transfer Kyle Parco), plus Duke's Josh Finesilver, Indiana's Graham Rooks and Kent State's Kody Komara.
The 165-pound class also has three returning NCAA qualifiers: Anthony Valencia (All-American from Arizona State),
Will Formato (App State) and RJ Mosley (Gardner-Webb).
COVID-19 safety precautions
- Face coverings are required in all indoor areas on campus, including Varsity Gym, regardless of vaccination status. If actively eating, face coverings are not required to be worn
- Face coverings are not required outside Varsity Gym
- Hand sanitizer stations are available in the facility

- Parking lots are free to the public on Sundays, with the Rivers Street Deck across from Varsity Gym being the most popular option for wrestling events
