CLINTON, S.C. - App State men's tennis suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 decision to Presbyterian on Friday afternoon.
The Mountaineers fall to 1-6 on the season, while Presbyterian moves to 3-6.
Due to weather conditions in Clinton, singles started the contest with doubles finishing the match after the score was tied 3-3.
After the hosts won the first two matches on Courts 1 and 6, App State came back to tie up the contest, 2-2, thanks to victories by Matvey Radionov and Milo Bargeron.
Radionov defeated Oscar Alvarez 6-3, 6-4 before Bargeron downed Daniel Stenger in three sets. Bargeron won the first frame (6-1), lost the second (3-6) and then regrouped to capture the deciding set and match, 6-4. Zion Heaven stepped up in his match, as he came back from a one-set deficit against J. Castillo-Lopez to give App a 3-2 advantage. The sophomore won the final two sets, including the third frame in which he won the tiebreaker.
PC forced doubles after Pakvovich fell in three sets. The senior fell in the first set, came back and won the second frame to set up the final third. He would fall to his counterpart, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, in a valiant effort.
Bargeron and Pavkovich started the Black and Gold off strong in their 6-4 win over Alvarez/Stenger, giving the Apps a 1-0 advantage in doubles.
However, the Blue Hose claimed the final two doubles matches by a score of 6-4 on Courts 2 and 3.
Bargeron highlighted the day with a singles and doubles win, while the senior and Radionov have back-to-back singles wins.
