BOONE, N.C. -- App State men's basketball will tip the 2020-21 season on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at South Carolina State. No stream or radio broadcast will be available.

THE SERIES
- This will be the fourth meeting all-time between the two schools.
- App State holds a 2-1 edge in the series and won the last meeting between the two programs in Orangeburg 70-61 during the 1979-80 season.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
- App State returns a total of nine players from last season's team that won 18 games. The 18 victories marked the most for the program since the 2009-10 season.
- Last year, the Black and Gold finished second in the Sun Belt in opponent scoring, surrendering 67.3 point per game. In all, the Mountaineers held 13 opponents to under 60 points, which was the most since the 1979-80 season.
- Justin Forrest was tabbed as Preseason First Team All-Sun Belt by the league's head coaches. Last season, Forrest finished third in the league in scoring at 17.3 points and dished out a career-best 91 assists.
- Adrian Delph returns after averaging a career-high 8.8 points, while Kendall Lewis is also back after averaging 7.4 points and finishing tied for the team lead with 21 blocks.
- James Lewis Jr. and Donovan Gregory also are back after playing solid roles off the bench in 2019-20.
- The Mountaineers also welcome in seven newcomers to the program this season in Michael Almonacy, Xavion Brown, RJ Duhart, Michael Eads, Sasha Glushkov, CJ Huntley and Deshon Parker.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
- South Carolina State posted a 11-18 overall record last season, with a 6-10 mark in the MEAC.
- Tariq Simmons returns for the Bulldogs after averaging 7.3 points and 3.3 rebounds.
- Trushaun Moorer also returns for South Carolina State after averaging 2.6 points on 44.4 percent shooting and 39.1 percent shooting from deep.
UP NEXT
App State will return to the High Country on Friday evening for a 6 p.m. contest with Carver to begin a four-game home stand. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Appalachian Sports Network from IMG Learfield College.
