Men's Golf Back in Action Monday, Intercollegiate at The Grove

BOONE, N.C. - App State men's golf will compete in its second of three 2020 fall events starting Monday in the Intercollegiate at The Grove from College Grove, Tennessee.

The Intercollegiate at The Grove, hosted by Middle Tennessee, is a two-day 36-hole event. The Mountaineers will face the likes of a par-72, 7,368-yard course designed by Greg Norman at The Grove Club.

Due to tropical rain in the area from Delta, only one 18-hole round will be played each tournament day, Monday and Tuesday.

App State is fresh off of a top-three team finish, its fifth top-three finish in a span of two seasons, at the J.T. Poston Invitational where four Mountaineers placed top 15 on the player leaderboard. The Mountaineers also led the field last time out in made birdies.

"The guys just have to have confidence in themselves," head coach Jason Allison said. "We've obviously proven that we are a competitive golf team, but now we got to be more committed and be sure of ourselves for two or three straight rounds."

A total of 13 universities are set to take part in the Intercollegiate at The Grove, including three other Sun Belt schools. App State, Chattanooga, Coastal Carolina, Francis Marion, Lamar, ULM, Louisiana Tech, Mercer, Middle Tennessee, Southern Miss, Troy, Western Carolina and Western Kentucky make up the field.

Timothius Tirto Tamardi, Jake Lane, Dylan Lukes, Justin Morgan, Lukas Jönsson, and Sverrir Haraldsson will all compete for the Black and Gold this time around. Haraldsson will be making his third career start as a Mountaineer, while Morgan will be making his second.

Tee times for both Monday and Tuesday morning are set for 9 a.m. (CDT). Once again and due to COVID-19 protocols, teams will separately compete in a teammate pod of six, counting the lowest four scores.

"I've enjoyed the energy among the team out on the course," Lukes said. "We're still competitive with one another and pushing each other out there. We practice with each other all the time, so we know each other's game well. I think we can feed off one another."

Parents and spectators will be allowed on the course after having their temperature checked at the entrance. All parents and spectators are required to wear masks inside the clubhouse and around the dining areas at all times. Carts will only be available for the student-athletes.

Live stats will be provided by Golfstat.com. Be sure to follow App State men's golf on Twitter (@appstategolf) and Instagram (@appstatemgolf) for tournament updates.
