About the Mountaineers
Last Time Out
The Apps fell to a formidable Charlotte squad in overtime, 3-2, on Thursday. App State faced a 2-0 deficit before
Kristin Brown connected with
Ava Dawson in the second half. Charlotte scored in the first seven seconds of
overtime to trip up the Mountaineers.
A Win Would
Give the Mountaineers their first win on the road this season. App State's three opponents in No. 25 Wake Forest, Radford and Charlotte are a combined 5-2-2 at home this season, giving the Black and Gold a tough road slate
to start the season.
Using her Head
After two more headers last night, Five of Dawson's eight career goals have come off of headers. The senior now has three multi-score performances, and it's the third straight season she's accomplished the feat. Dawson's team-high
three goals are tied for fourth in the conference. Her three goals have come in the past two contests.
Faster Starts
In the three losses going into Sunday, the Apps have allowed seven of their nine goals in the first half this season. In the first half against Duquesne and UNC Asheville (1-0-1), they outscored both opponents by a combined score of
3-1.
Scouting Tennessee Tech
The Eagles (1-2-2) won their first match of the season on Friday in a 2-1 overtime victory against North Alabama. TTU faced two familiar foes in South Alabama and Troy earlier this season, posting two draws against both teams.
Bailey Taylor leads the team with a pair of goals, while Cassidy Bereda, Kendall Powell and Natalie Rollen each have scored this season. Isabelle Austin has started in the first four matches of the season between the post.
Series History
App State is 1-3 all-time against Tennessee Tech. The Mountaineers and Eagles last faced off in 2008, falling to Sunday's foe, 1-0. The Apps lone win came in a 2-0 win in 2007.
What's Next
App will start a three-match homestand next Friday at 7 p.m. against FIU.
