BOONE, N.C. – The Appalachian State men's soccer team returns to the pitch on Tuesday after almost a week off, taking on East Tennessee State at 7 p.m.

Last Time Out
App State recorded its fourth shutout this season with a 1-0 win over UNC Asheville last Wednesday night. The Mountaineers are now 6-2-0 on the season and 5-1 at home. Redshirt freshman
Jacob Madden and the Mountaineer backline posted another solid 90 minutes for App State, conceding only five shots with one on goal. Madden made one save on the night.
The breakthrough for the Mountaineers came in the 67
th minute as
Mayola Kinyua played a ball to
Juan Hernandez making a run on the right flank. Hernandez found
Nick Rogers in the box who finished far post for his second goal, and game-winner, of the season. With the assist, Hernandez is now tied for a team-high two assists.
Mountaineer Defense Tops Sun Belt
The Appalachian State defense currently leads the Sun Belt in goals allowed (6) and goals against average (.75). The Apps' four shutouts also lead the conference, doubling the next best team. Coastal Carolina and Georgia State have each recorded two shutouts. Madden also leads all conference goalkeepers with a .818 save percentage, which is good for 21
st nationally.
Offensive Leaders
Sophomore
Kelan Swales currently leads the team in goals (3) and points (7). He has also taken a team-high 15 shots on the season. Freshman
Nick Rogers adds two goals, both game-winners, while defender
Zeiko Harris has also found the back of the net twice. Kinyua, Hernandez, and
Alex McGrath are tied for the team lead in assists with two.
Scouting East Tennessee State
The Buccaneers enter Tuesday's match 3-3-1, coming off a 2-2 (2OT) draw with Georgia State on Saturday. ETSU came from behind 2-0 to force the draw against the unbeaten Panthers. Hauk Andreas Fossen currently leads the Bucs with four goals, followed by Kieran Richards with two goals and two assists. Josh Perryman has started every game in goal, allowing eight goals and making 24 saves.
Series History
This will be the 13
th meeting between the two teams, with the Mountaineers leading the series 8-4-0. ETSU comes in the winner of the last meeting, defeating the Apps 1-0 in 2018.
Up Next
The Mountaineers begin Sun Belt play on Sunday, Oct. 6, making the trip to Conway, Ark. to take on Central Arkansas. This will be the first meeting between the two teams as conference opponents.
