BOONE, N.C. - App State women's soccer earned its first Sun Belt win, defeating Georgia Southern 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.

Appalachian improves to 4-5-2 on the season and .500 in the Sun Belt at 1-1-1, while Georgia Southern is 4-5-1 and is handed its first loss in league action (1-1-1 SBC). App
State stays undefeated at home with a 4-0-2 mark.

"To get that first win in the Sun Belt is huge," head coach Sarah Strickland said. "It was a great team performance, we went deep into our bench and got a lot great minutes from the girls. The
energy on the sidelines was awesome and the fans were bought in, were loud, supportive and what we expect from App Nation."

The Mountaineers and Eagles were tied 1-1 until the 78th minute when Ava Dawson played Abbey Rand in the top left corner of the box.  Rand beat her defender before
firing the shot past the goalkeeper to the right side of the net. For Rand, it's her second goal of the season. Both of her goals have either tied up the game or won the contest
for the Black and Gold.
In the third minute of the contest, App State held a 1-0 lead after Jess Easley sent a free kick in the box that hit the head of a GS player before sailing over the goalkeeper.

App kept GS scoreless until four seconds left in the first half, when Brogan Boudreaux found the back of the net to tie up the contest going into the break.

Kerry Eagleston got the win between the posts, coming away with four stops on the afternoon, including an impressive save early in the first half. Emma McGibany
led the team with two shots on goal. The freshmen trio of McGibany, Hulda Agustsdottir and Olivia Cohen each led the team with a pair of shots.

App State will look to get its first road win on Friday, when it starts a three-game road trip starting with Louisiana at 8 pm (ET).
