Defensive Battle Ends in Overtime Heartbreak

Story Links

LAFAYETTE, La. - App State women's soccer fell to Louisiana, 1-0, in a double overtime match Friday night in Lafayette at the Ragin' Cajun Soccer Complex.

The Mountaineers are now 4-6-2 (1-2-1 SBC) on the season and will travel to Texas State for another Sun Belt game on Sunday, as they continue to seek their first road win of the season.

After 100 minutes of tough defensive play by the Apps, the game was lost one minute into the second overtime on an unlucky own goal that was deflected off a Mountaineer defender from a
shot by Louisiana's Rachel Sutter.

The Mountaineers only produced one shot in the opening half. In the second half,  the attack came alive with eight shots but was unable to manufacture a score. Following regulation, the offense reverted back to it's first half tendencies and only produced one shot. This was the fourth time this season the team failed to record a goal.

App State's bright spot was led by freshman goalkeeper Kerry Eagleston. Eagleston recorded six saves while defending 15 total shots from the Cajuns. Eagleston now has 56 saves on the season.

Four Mountaineers post a shot on goal, while Ava Dawson and Tess Cairney each had two shots apiece.
