BOONE, N.C. – The Appalachian State men's soccer team returns home Wednesday, hosting UNC Asheville at 7 p.m. The Mountaineers are coming off an explosive offensive performance on Saturday, taking down UNC Greensboro, 4-2.

Last Time Out
The Mountaineers' offense came alive with a season-high four goals and the most scored on the road since 2009. It also tied the most goals allowed by the Spartans this season. App used a first half surge to take a commanding lead with three goals in the first 29 minutes of the game.
Kelan Swales led the offensive outburst, scoring two goals and the game-winner in the 29
th minute.
Zeiko Harris and
Dimitris Moraitakis also found the back of the net for the Mountaineers.
Parker Cross,
Alex McGrath and
Mayola Kinyua each added an assist on the night.
Mountaineer Firsts
App State has had three different players record their first goal in an App State uniform so far this season, including freshman
Nick Rogers and sophomores Swales and
Mason Robicheaux. Cross and Kinyua also joined the club on Saturday, each adding an assist for their first career points.
Defense Wins Games
The App State defense currently leads the Sun Belt in shutouts with three and is also tied for first in goals allowed with six. The Apps' .86 goals against average is good for second in the conference.

Jacob Madden is currently ranked T-24
th nationally, first in the Sun Belt, in save percentage with a .818. His 26 saves are also good for 39
th nationally and second in the Sun Belt.
Scouting UNC Asheville
The Bulldogs enter Wednesday's match 1-5-1 and are coming off a 4-0 setback to Wofford on Saturday. UNCA's lone win on the season came against VMI, beating the Keydets, 2-1. All three of last season's top goal scorers return for the Bulldogs this season in Izaiah Vignali (4), Taylor Durall (3) and Lane Carroll (3). UNCA was picked ninth in the Big South Preseason Poll.
Series History
This will be the 38
th meeting between the two teams, with the Apps' owning a 22-11-4 advantage. The Mountaineers and Bulldogs played to a 1-1 (2OT) draw the last time they met in 2018.
