BOONE, N.C. – The Appalachian State men's soccer team continues its week on the road, taking on the UNC Greensboro Spartans on Saturday. The Mountaineers enter the weekend contest 4-2-0 after taking a 1-0 loss to Elon on Tuesday.

Last Time Out
Elon held the advantage in the first half, maintaining a majority of the possession and outshooting the Mountaineers nine to three. The Phoenix broke through App State's defense in the 18
th minute after Tuki Tayali finished the rebound off his missed penalty kick.
Jacob Madden made a great save on the penalty taken by Tayali, but was unable to stop the follow up shot.
App State could not break through Elon's defense, ending the match with only nine shots, two of which were on goal. The Phoenix were able to take 14 shots, with seven on frame. The Apps pressed the Phoenix in the final 10 minutes, but were unable to find the net.
Madden Making An Impact
Redshirt freshman
Jacob Madden has continued to impress in goal for the Mountaineers. The Round Rock, Texas native currently has a .667 goals against average, the best mark in the Sun Belt. He has only allowed four goals in 540 minutes. Madden also leads the Sun Belt in saves with 25, as well as save percentage with a .867, which also sits at 12
th nationally.
Team Leaders
On the other end of the field,
Camden Holbrook and
Kelan Swales lead the offense for the Mountaineers. Both forwards have a team-high three points, each with a goal and an assist.
Alex Hernandez,
Nick Rogers,
Mason Robicheaux, and
Zeiko Harris have one goal apiece, while
Reed Hunnicutt,
Alex McGrath, and
Juan Hernandez add an assist.
Scouting UNC Greensboro
The Spartans (2-4-0) are coming off a 5-1 road victory over UNC Asheville on Wednesday, in which Faisal Almubaslat and Micah Albert each collected a pair of goals. UNCG went 8-9-2, 2-2-2 in 2018 with its second-straight trip to the SoCon Championship Game.
Series History
This will be the 33
rd meeting between the Mountaineers and the Spartans, who most recently played each other during the 2018 season. App State came out on top with a 1-0 win. UNCG holds the advantage with a 22-10-0 record against the Apps.
