Last Time Out
A first half goal against High Point was enough for the App State defense, who was able to close out the game after a goal from
Mason Robicheaux in the 37
th minute to give the Mountaineers the 1-0 win.
Kelan Swales set up Robicheaux in the top of the box, with the defender burying his shot into the upper 90.
The Panthers held the advantage in both halves, outshooting the Mountaineers eight to four in the first half, followed by 14 shots to App State's six in the second half. Appalachian's redshirt freshman goalkeeper,
Jacob Madden, continued to be solid between the posts, making five saves.
Three Straight Clean Sheets
The Mountaineers have not given up a goal in 308 straight minutes, conceding their last goal in the 2-1 win over Loyola on Sept. 1. Madden made a career-high five saves in the 1-0 win against High Point en route to his third career shutout. The goalkeeper now has 19 saves on the year, good for second in the Sun Belt. Madden leads the conference in save percentage (.864) and goals against average (.60).
Offensive Production
Six different players have scored goals for the Mountaineers so far this year, including Robicheaux who tallied his first career goal on Saturday.
Camden Holbrook,
Kelan Swales,
Zeiko Harris,
Alex Hernandez and
Nick Rogers have also found the back of the net. Holbrook and Swales add an assist for a team-high three points. Three other Mountaineers have an assist, including
Reed Hunnicutt,
Juan Hernandez, and
Alex McGrath.
Strive for Five
App State has matched its win streak from last season, when they started the 2018 campaign 4-0. With a win on Tuesday, the Mountaineers would have their first five-match win streak since 2006.
Scouting Elon
Elon enters Tuesday's match 1-3-1. The Phoenix most recently took a 6-0 loss to James Madison to open conference play. Elon welcomed back 22 letterwinners and five starters from last year's team. This will be the 19
th matchup between the two teams, with Elon holding the slight advantage at 8-7-3. The last meeting between the two teams resulted in a 0-0 (2OT) draw in 2018.
