Men's Soccer Set for Saturday Match Against High Point

BOONE, N.C. – The Appalachian State men's soccer team wraps up a five-game home stand Saturday evening, hosting the High Point Panthers at 7 p.m. The 3-1-0 Mountaineers enter the match fresh off a weekend sweep, with wins over George Mason and American.

Last Time Out
 
App State went 2-0 last weekend, posting two wins and two shutouts. The Mountaineers used back-to-back goals in the second half to put the Patriots away, with Zeiko Harris and Alex Hernandez finding the back of the net to clinch the win. Camden Holbrook was the difference maker in the Apps' 1-0 win over American, finishing a ball from Juan Hernandez for his first game-winner of the season.
 
App State was recently ranked 7th in the Southeast region by United Soccer Coaches, ahead of Sun Belt opponents Central Arkansas (8th), Georgia State (9th) and Georgia Southern (10th).
 
 
Madden Makes Saves
 
Madden anchored the Mountaineer defense that put up two shutouts this weekend, earning Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week. This was his first Player of the Week honor. The Round Rock, Texas native made four key saves in the 2-0 win over George Mason to register his first career shutout. He followed up that performance with two saves in the 1-0 win over American.
 
On the season, Madden leads the Sun Belt in goals against average with a .75. He is also tied for first in save percentage with a .824. His 14 saves on the season are tied for second.
 
Spread the Love
 
Five different players have scored goals for the Mountaineers so far this year. Holbrook leads the way with a team-high three points, tallying a goal and assist. Harris, Alex Hernandez, Nick Rogers, and Kelan Swales have also found the back of the net. Along with Holbrook, three other Mountaineers have an assist, including Reed Hunnicutt, Juan Hernandez, and Alex McGrath.

Scouting High Point
 
The Panthers enter Saturday's contest 2-2-0 and are coming off a 1-0 win over Elon. Alex Abril was the hero in Thursday's win, scoring the game-winner early in the second half. Goalkeeper Keegan Meyer made seven saves, notching his first shutout of the season. The back-to-back Big South regular season champions return seven of its regular starting 11 from the previous season, with nearly 70 percent of its offensive production 

Series History
 
This is the 20th meeting between the two teams, with the Mountaineers holding a 14-4-1 advantage. High Point was victorious in the last match up, posting a 2-0 win over App State in 2018.
