BOONE, N.C. — Daniel Kilgore being voted a Miami Dolphins captain and Ronald Blair recording his first career fumble recovery were among the highlights for App State Football alums during the opening week of the 2019 NFL season for #NFLNeers.
Kilgore, a center who has recovered from an injury that ended his debut season with the Dolphins in 2018, said it's a "huge honor" to be named a captain again.
"To be voted on by your peers is a true honor," he told reporters in Florida. "It's not a job that I take lightly. I think it comes with a big responsibility, and I'm ready for it."
The Dolphins dropped their opening game against Baltimore, and Blair's fumble recovery helped the San Francisco 49ers post a 31-17 win against Tampa Bay. He contributed to a tackle for loss from his defensive end spot and participated in more than 40 percent of the defensive snaps.
Kendall Lamm made his official Cleveland Browns debut as an offensive tackle and suffered an injury during a loss to the Tennessee Titans. The Browns' defensive coordinator is App State alum Steve Wilks.
Detroit's Sam Martin put four of his eight punts inside the 20 with a long kick of 55 yards during a 27-27 tie against the Arizona Cardinals.
Three App State alums have landed on practice squads, with rookie cornerback
Tae Hayes rejoining the Jacksonville Jaguars, rookie safety
Austin Exford rejoining the Houston Texans and the New England Patriots signing offensive guard Colby Gossett. Rookie running back
Jalin Moore is on the reserve/non-football injury list with the New York Jets as he fully recovers from a leg injury sustained during his senior season.
