App State Football Adds Anthony as Offensive Coordinator

BOONE, N.C. — App State Football has hired Mike Anthony to be the Mountaineers' offensive coordinator, head coach Dowell Loggains announced Friday.

Anthony was a member of South Carolina's offensive staff as an assistant coach working with quarterbacks at the start of 2026 after spending the previous three seasons in various offensive roles at TCU, including as an assistant quarterbacks coach in 2025.

Anthony, a team captain as a high school center in Texas, worked closely with innovative offensive mind Kendal Briles during their time together at South Carolina (January 2026), TCU (2023-25), Arkansas (2020-22), Florida State (2019), Houston (2018), FAU (2017) and Baylor (2009-16). From 2021-22, Loggains was the Razorbacks' tight ends coach while Anthony was an offensive quality control coach at Arkansas.

Under the direction of head coach Sonny Dykes, TCU averaged more than 30 points per game in each of Anthony's three seasons there, with total offense rankings of 11th, 31st and 30th nationally. Josh Hoover set the program's single-season passing record in 2024, ranking No. 6 nationally at 303.8 yards per game, before he was No. 4 nationally with 289.3 passing yards per game in 2025. Emani Bailey rushed for more than 1,200 yards for the Horned Frogs in 2023.

At Arkansas, the Razorbacks increased their scoring average from 21.4 to 25.7 points per game in 2020, then made a six-win improvement to 9-4 in 2021, when the team led all Power Five schools and ranked seventh nationally with 227.8 rushing yards per game. Arkansas then averaged 32.5 points per game in 2022.

With Anthony assisting Briles at each stop, serving as either an offensive analyst or senior offensive analyst, there was year-to-year improvement during their single seasons together at Florida State (21.9 points to 27.9 in 2019 for head coach Willie Taggart), Houston (28.3 points to 43.9 in 2018, good for No. 5 nationally on an 8-5 team coached by Major Applewhite) and FAU (26.4 points to 40.6 in 2017, good for No. 8 nationally on an 11-3 team coached by Lane Kiffin).

Anthony was a four-year student assistant with the Baylor football program from 2009 to 2012, graduating in 2013 with a degree in Health and Human Performance. After graduation, he remained on the Baylor staff, working as an assistant quality control specialist (2013), assistant director of football operations/offensive analyst (2014) and offensive analyst (2015-16). The Bears led the nation at 48.1 points per game and 616.2 yards of offense per game in 2015, capping a run of three straight seasons with double-figure victories.

Anthony lettered two years at Kilgore High School in Texas as a center and served as a team captain as a senior in 2007. He was named to the 2007 Academic All-State Team.

He is engaged to Emily Johnson.
