Fierbaugh Joins App State's Staff as Safeties Coach

BOONE, N.C. — App State Football has hired Aaron Fierbaugh to be the Mountaineers' safeties coach, head coach Dowell Loggains announced Friday.

Fierbaugh spent the 2023-25 seasons as Liberty's safeties coach, helping the 2023 Flames take a 13-0 record into the Fiesta Bowl as a New Year's Six bowl qualifier.

Liberty ranked in the top 50 nationally in pass efficiency defense in 2025 and ranking in the top 20 for fewest first downs allowed during an 8-4 season in 2024. In 2023, with the Flames entering bowl season as one of four undefeated teams in the country, Liberty led the nation with 21 interceptions and ranked No. 9 with 25 forced turnovers.

Under Fierbaugh's leadership in 2023, safety Brylan Green ranked No. 6 in the country in total interceptions (five) and was named a second-team All-American. He repeated as a first-team all-conference performer in 2024 and finished his career in 2025 with collegiate totals of 141 tackles and 22 passes defended.

Fierbaugh arrived at Liberty after having worked on head coach Jamey Chadwell's staff at Coastal Carolina from 2021-22. Fierbaugh served as the Chanticleers' inside linebackers coach in 2022 after being a defensive analyst in 2021, assisting former linebackers coach Rod Wilson with the linebackers and defensive coordinator Chad Staggs in weekly game planning.

As an analyst in 2021, Fierbaugh worked with veteran linebackers Silas Kelley and Teddy Gallagher, who both earned All-Sun Belt honors and led the team in tackles with 110 and 89, respectively.

Prior to joining the Coastal Carolina staff, Fierbaugh was a defensive quality control assistant at South Carolina for the 2016-20 seasons, helping with opponent scouting, offensive breakdowns and self-scouting. With the Gamecocks, he was part of three bowl trips: the 2016 Birmingham Bowl, 2017 Outback Bowl and 2018 Belk Bowl.

A native of Fayetteville, Ga., Fierbaugh graduated from Auburn with a bachelor's degree in marketing in December 2015. At Auburn, he served as a student assistant for four years, first working with player personnel, special teams and recruiting and then the defense.

During his time with the Tigers, Auburn played in the BCS National Championship game, the Outback Bowl and Birmingham Bowl.
