BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State head field hockey coach
Meghan Dawson has announced the addition of
Ally Mooney to the field hockey coaching staff.
"I am so excited to add Ally to our coaching staff," Dawson said. "She brings an enormous amount of goalkeeping knowledge to our program. She is going to be a great role model for our players, and I'm excited to work alongside her."
Mooney joins the App State coaching staff after posting a standout career at Division II powerhouse Shippensburg University. As a senior, the former goalkeeper helped lead the Raiders to their third-straight NCAA Division II National Championship in 2018. She finished her senior campaign with seven shutouts, including one in the national championship game.
A two-time team captain, Mooney earned multiple awards during her college career. Along with three national championships, Mooney was named an NFHCA All-American in 2014 and 2016. As a freshman, she earned a spot on the Synapse Sports All-Rookie Team after allowing just 0.76 goals per game.
Mooney has served as a coach for four organizations during her offseason in college. In spring 2017 and 2018, she worked as an assistant coach for the USA Field Hockey Futures Program. She also worked specifically with goalkeepers for Core Hockey and X-Calibur Field Hockey Club.
The former goalkeeper will get the opportunity to work with
Rachel Gaines and 2019 signee Addie Clark this upcoming season. Gaines recorded two shutouts, including one in a 2-0 victory over Longwood in the MAC Tournament, during the 2018 season. Clark, a native of Louisville, Ky., secured 18 shutouts as a senior at duPont Manual High School.
Mooney, a native of Spring City, Pa., earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science with a minor in coaching in December.
"I am so grateful for this opportunity at such a wonderful institution," Mooney said. "Meg and Emily have both worked hard to build a great culture within the program, and I'm thankful to work with and learn from an incredible staff. As we continue to build and move forward, I cannot wait to see what we can accomplish."
