MONROE, La. - Appalachian State University women's tennis (11-5, 5-1 SBC) fell to ULM (9-2, 4-1 SBC) in a narrow 4-3 loss on Sunday afternoon at Heard Stadium.
The Mountaineers' win streak was snapped in the setback against a Warhawk team that is 4-1 at home this season. Appalachian split the weekend in Louisiana following its win over Louisiana
on Saturday. Despite the loss, the Mountaineers have won five of their last six matches.
"When you go the road, especially in conference play, you have to show up and compete in every point," head coach
Blake Mosley said. "We didn't want it bad enough and that cost us. You don't win when you find any excuse not to compete. We'll continue to work hard moving forward and get ready for the Georgia schools."
It was a closely-contested contested with one of the Mountaineers' three losses in singles going to a third set and one doubles setback going into a tiebreaker.
Kate Earnhardt and
Jeannez Daniel both picked up wins in singles and doubles play, while Daniel extended her win streak in singles action to three matches and a 7-3 mark over her
last 10 contests.
Heidi Swope also picked up a victory in singles to move to 12-3 on the season. Swope dealt Florencia Sareno a hard-fought straight set loss, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 defeat.
ULM captured two of three doubles contests to take a 1-0 lead. Jeannez/Earnhardt recorded the lone doubles win for the Black and Gold. María José Zacarias and Swope fell in a narrow doubles setback to
their counterpart, 7-6 (7-3).
App State will return to action next weekend at home against the Georgia schools next weekend. Appalachian will face Georgia Southern  at 10 a.m. on Friday before concluding the weekend
against Georgia State on Sunday at 10 a.m.
