BOONE, N.C. --
Isaac Benz and
Tristian Shaver etched their names into the Appalachian State men's track & field record books on Friday and Saturday, as the Mountaineers sent a group of athletes to the Raleigh Relays and another group to the Pepsi Florida Relays.
Benz crossed 14th overall in the 10,000-meter run in 30:18.29 at the Raleigh Relays, moving him into ninth place in program history. His time also represents a PR by over a minute and ranks as the top time in the Sun Belt this season.
Shaver cleared 17-1.50 (5.22m) in the pole vault, to finish third in a field featuring competitors from the ACC, SEC and Big 10 at the Pepsi Florida Relays. Shaver's mark represents a PR and now ranks second all-time in the event in program history.
Also at the Raleigh Relays,
Ryan Brown posted a PR time of 9:16.08 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. His time now sits second in the Sun Belt this season.
On Thursday at the Pepsi Florida Relays,
Peter Kenn posted a PR in the hammer throw, covering 181-6 (55.33m). His mark bettered his PR by over five feet and now ranks fifth in the Sun Belt.
Also in Florida,
Elliott Graves turned in a season-best in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.07 seconds, placing him 12th overall in a deep field.
Graves teamed up with
De'Shawn Ballard,
Brenton Ervin and
Jabari Johnson in the 4x200-meter relay to finish 13th in 1:25.05. The mark was just .43 seconds shy of the school record.
App State will be idle next weekend and compete again on Apr. 12 and Apr. 13 at the Charlotte Invitational.
