App Looks to Continue Hot Sun Belt Start at Georgia State

PANTHERSVILLE, GA. – Appalachian State (18-7, 6-0) resumes Sun Belt play at Georgia State this weekend with a three-game series beginning on Friday, Mar. 22. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. on Friday. Game two will be on Saturday, Mar. 23 at 1 p.m. The series finale will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Mar. 24.
 
APP STATE OFFENSE
The Apps won their fourth game in a row against East Tennessee State Wednesday night in a 10-hit game. The win is part of a 9-1 record in the last 10 games for the Mountaineers.
 
Junior Keri White continues to lead the Mountaineer offense as the leadoff hitter, batting .348. Senior Jenny Dodd is first in the Sun Belt for walks with 26 and leads the team with a .494 on-base percentage. Dodd has managed to get on base safely in 22 straight games. Alison Durrence is tied for fifth in the league with 6 home runs on the season.

APP STATE DEFENSE
On defense, the Mountaineers are second in the Sun Belt with a .976 fielding percentage and 18 errors on the season. Only Coastal Carolina has less errors with 16. Juniors Sydney Holland and Kenzie Longanecker are neck and neck in the Sun Belt standings with the third and fourth lowest ERA. Holland has maintained a 1.86 ERA and Longanecker with a 2.17.
 
Longanecker has a perfect 11-0 record in the circle this season, fourth in the Sun Belt, with 65 strikeouts this season, fifth in the Sun Belt. She has added to her career strikeout list at 277 total strikeouts, fifth in App State history, and career wins at 27, tied for third.

A LOOK BACK AT 2018
App State played three tough games against the Panthers at home last season. Georgia State held the Mountaineers scoreless in the first game on Friday, resulting in a 0-4 loss. They didn't let up in Saturday's doubleheader either as Georgia State racked up 17 runs. Despite a homerun by Ally Walters, the Panthers answered with two of their own, winning 17-5.
 
Game three would follow suit. The Mountaineers scored two runs in the first but were no match for the Panthers' 9, losing 9-2.  The bats were swinging for both sides throughout the weekend with 15 total hits in game one, 17 in game two and 24 in game three.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Georgia State holds a 4-24 overall record and 2-4 Sun Belt record with a 3-7 record at home. In 17 games against the Panthers in series history, App is 2-15.
 
Caitlin Ray leads the Panthers with a .321 batting average. Remington Hasty has a team-high 3 home runs this season with a .432 slugging percentage.
 
With 22 appearances in the circle, Savannah Freeman is 1-6 with a 4.56 ERA. Emily Soles and Amanda Chance are probable starters this weekend as well.
