The Apps fell to VCU in the season opener, 66-38, in Richmond, Va. Appalachian got off to a 7-0 run in the first 1:55 of the game after a 3-of-5 start. VCU forced App to shoot 1-for-6 in the final eight minutes of the contest and captured a 19-9 lead after the first quarter, a lead it would relinquish.
Pre Stanley scored in double figures for the 10th straight game dating back to last season with 11 points.
Lainey Gosnell brought down a game-high eight boards.
Among Nation's Active Leaders
Bayley Plummer is the nation's active leader in career rebounds with 997, while she is tied among the leaders in rebounds per game with 10.1. The Thomasville, N.C. native is 15th as well with 23 double-doubles. Plummer is in a league of her own as she's the only player in the country with at least 650 points, 950 rebounds, 125 blocks and 100 assists. She is expected to become the program's third player in school history to reach 1,000-career rebounds. Plummer is only 12 rebounds away from surpassing Anna Freeman (1,008 rebounds) for second place all-time.
What to Watch For
- Elon made 50 percent of its 3-pointers against Western Carolina going 8-of-16. See if App's defense can limit the Phoenix from beyond the arc.
- The Mountaineers attempted just six free throws against the Rams. Expect App State to get the line more often after finishing 24th in the country in free throw attempts last season.

Ashley Polacek had just one assist against VCU. Against the Phoenix last season, she dished out a personal-high 11 helpers. Watch if the floor general can get her teammates involved in the open floor.
- Watch if App can do a better job of protecting the rock. The Mountaineers' 18 turnovers were the most since 3/7/19 against Troy, a span of eight games dating back to last season.

- Elon is coming off a 68-24 win over Western Carolina in its season opener on Saturday.
- The Phoenix defense held the Catamounts to just 18.9 percent shooting, while WCU scored double-digits in a quarter just once.

- Head coach Charlotte Smith is in her ninth season as the Elon head coach.
- Of those returning, Jada Graves is back after missing 2018-19 to a knee injury.
- Graves was the CAA Defensive Player of the Year in 2017-18.
- The 24 points surrendered against WCU is the fewest allowed in the country in a game through the first week.
Series History
App State is 25-11 all-time against the Phoenix after least season's narrow 65-62 victory inside the Holmes Center. The Mountaineers were trailing 62-57 with 5:07 left before going on an 8-0 run to pull out the win, outscoring Elon 17-7 in the final period.
