BOONE, N.C. – The NCAA released the latest Division I Graduation Success Rate (GSR) figures this week, and Appalachian State reported a success rate of 84 percent, the second-highest in the Sun Belt Conference. The GSR is based on student-athletes who enrolled in 2012-13 and graduated within six years.
Four Mountaineer sports earned a 100 percent GSR, including women's basketball, men's tennis, women's tennis and volleyball. Those four sports with a 100 percent GSR are tied for the most in the conference with Coastal Carolina and South Alabama.
Three other sports also posted a success rate above 90 percent. Both men's and women's soccer earned a 93, followed by women's track & field/cross country with a 90. Seven sports with a GSR at 90 percent or above is tied for the most in the Sun Belt with South Alabama and Troy.
The Mountaineers were recently recognized by the Sun Belt for their academic excellence, boasting the highest number of student-athletes named to the Honor Roll with 112. On the Commissioner's List, App State had the second-most honorees with 102. App State also had the second-most between the two lists with 214 total.
Since its 2014-15 transition to the Sun Belt Conference for all but two sports (wrestling and field hockey), App State has paced the league in academic performance among its student-athletes. App State won the Sun Belt Institutional Graduation Rate Award for student-athletes following the 2013-14 and 2015-16 school years. App State also led all Sun Belt schools last year with a school-record 14 teams that achieved a
perfect 1,000 single-year APR score.
