NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Appalachian State cross country runner
Lawson Benfield has been named Sun Belt Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
Benfield is the third Mountaineer to win the award this season, joining teammates
Isaac Benz and
Ryan Brown.
At the Royals Challenge on Friday, Benfield finished 66th overall in a field of over 500 runners. His time of 25:26.9 bettered his PR nearly 35 seconds.
The Mountaineers will compete again on Friday at the HPU VertKlasse Open, with the men's 8K race scheduled for a 5:15 p.m. start. The meet will be the final one for the Mountaineers before the Sun Belt Championships on Nov. 2 in McDonough, Ga.
