BOONE, N.C. – The Appalachian State men's soccer team looks to claim its second conference win on Saturday, hosting the Howard Bison at 7 p.m. With a win, the Mountaineers would match their win total from last season, which was the highest number of wins since the 2015 season.

Last Time Out
The Appalachian State men's soccer team tallied its first Sun Belt win of the season Sunday afternoon, defeating Central Arkansas, 1-0.
A first half goal was enough for the top Sun Belt defense to close out the win.
Camden Holbrook scored his second goal of the season off a mistake from the Central Arkansas goalkeeper, Marc Olsen. Olsen went to clear the ball out of his own box and Holbrook was there to redirect the deflection into the back of the net in the 15
th minute of play.
From there, the App State defense shut down the Bears for its fifth shutout of the season. Madden came up big for the Mountaineers, making four saves on 13 shots taken by the Bears
Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week
Zeiko Harris claimed his second honor this season, named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week for his impact in the 1-0 shutout win last Sunday over Central Arkansas. This is the fourth defensive honor for App State this season, as the Mountaineers lead the Sun Belt in goals against average (.685), and are ranked eighth nationally in save percentage (.851) and shutout percentage (.600). App State's five shutouts are also a conference-high.
Offensive Numbers
Holbrook and
Nick Rogers both have two game-winning goals, with Holbrook getting the only goal in the Mountaineers last matchup at Central Arkansas.
Kelan Swales leads the team in points with seven, and in goals with three. Three different Mountaineers have a team-high two assists, with
Mayola Kinyua,
Alex McGrath, and
Juan Hernandez leading the team in helpers.
United Soccer Coaches Ranking
App State was recently ranked 6th in the Southeast region by United Soccer Coaches, the fifth week in a row the Mountaineers have been ranked in the top 10 of the region.
Scouting Howard
The Bison enter Saturday's match with a 2-7-1 record, with their last game a 6-0 defeat at Pittsburgh this past Monday. Goalkeeper Carlos Carro made 10 saves on 16 shots, while the Bison offense managed just two shots, with one on target. Both shots came from Andres Gomes, who is their leading goal scorer with four on the season.
Series History
The Mountaineers are unbeaten against the Bison, with a 3-0-2 record in the five meetings between the two sides. In the last meeting between the two teams in November of last year, the Mountaineers were victorious, with a 3-0 victory in Boone.
