Springs Picks Up First MLB Win

BOONE, N.C. — Texas Rangers rookie and Appalachian State alum Jeffrey Springs picked up his first win as an MLB pitcher Sunday.

Springs pitched the fifth and sixth innings of a 6-1 victory against Seattle, which took a 1-0 lead in the second inning but fell behind thanks to a four-run sixth from Texas.

Springs struck out two batters and gave up two hits in two scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 3.03. He has made 16 appearances (including two starts as an "opener" before being relieved by a traditional starter) and struck out 28 batters in 29.2 innings.

Springs' ERA for the season stood at 1.82 before a difficult outing in mid-September. Aside from that appearance, he has a 1.55 ERA over his other 15 games.

Springs pitched at App State from 2012 until 2015 and was picked by the Rangers in the 30th round of the 2015 draft.
