BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's basketball's preseason is underway in preparation for the 2018-19 campaign.
DAY NINE
Appalachian's preseason is nine days in after the team reported for the fall semester. App State has kicked it into high gear with just 57 days away until the season opener against UAB on Nov. 9. The Mountaineers are continuing to grow and sustain a consistency that coach Elderkin sees that has been improving since the summer. The Mountaineers are once again doing their team competition with three squads and completing weekly challenges for points.

WHO RETURNS
Appalachian returns nine players who were active last season including Third-Team All-Sun Belt selection,
Bayley Plummer, and its two leading scorers in Pre Stanley (11.4 ppg) and
Tierra Wilson (10.3 ppg). Also returning are
Nicola Mathews and
Lainey Gosnell. Mathews led the team in assists averaging three assists per game and was one of the top shooters in the Sun Belt. Gosnell gave the team a spark as the leading scorer off the bench turning in 7.7 points per game. The trio of Gosnell, Mathews and Wilson were one of the top shooting trios in the Sun Belt with 132 3-pointers made.
Maya Calder gives the team a strong post presence with her hustle and rebounding, while
Armani Hampton adds more depth in the frontcourt. Also returning is
Madi Story, who was Preseason All-First Team Sun Belt before tearing an ACL, while
Ashley Polacek is now eligible after transferring from UCF and sitting out.

The Mountaineers bring in four freshmen in
Haile McDonald,
A'Lea Gilbert,
Brooke Bigott and
Emma Newton to the fold for their freshmen seasons. Gilbert and Watson are from North Carolina while McDonald and Bigott are from Virginia and Texas, respectively.
