BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's soccer will make the short trip to Johnson City for a 4 p.m. exhibition against ETSU on Wednesday.
The contest on Wednesday is one of two friendly contests App will play this week. Appalachian hosts Western Carolina on Friday at 7 p.m. before opening the regular season next Friday on the road against High Point (7 p.m.).
Scouting ETSU
The Bucs finished 6-13 last season with all six wins coming at home. ETSU finished ninth in the SoCon but it returns its two leading goal scorers in Eleonora Goldoni (11 goals) and Pauline Vienne (5 goals). Three goalkeepers saw action for the Bucs, while Lea Ann Cutshall garnered the majority of the minutes with 1,437. She posted 83 saves with a 1.88 goals against average and a .735 save percentage.
App State returns 19 letterwinners and six starters from last season, which includes a solid core in its two leading goal scorers in
Kat Greer (five goals) and
Ava Dawson (three goals), the leader in assists (
Emmily Cowie) and primary goalkeeper,
Taylor Ray. Also returning for Appalachian is
Jessica Easley, who finished tied for second with Cowie in minutes at 1,727 is back for her third season on the pitch. Looking to have breakout seasons are
Maggie Hanusek, who scored a goal and played in 19 matches with eight starts and
Alexa Asher (12 starts - 1145 minutes).
Both squads faced off in a preseason matchup last season, concluding to a 1-1 draw. Greer found the net for the Mountaineers' only goal of the game.
