Men's Soccer Falls to Radford in Road Friendly, 1-0

RADFORD, Va. - Appalachian State University men's soccer fell to an experienced Radford squad on Wednesday evening, 1-0, at Cupp Stadium.

App faced a solid Highlander team that is coming off a trip to the Big South Conference Tournament semifinals. Most recently, Radford was selected to finish second in its preseason poll, while Kieran Roberts was picked to win the Attacking Player of the Year award. Facing a team that went 10-4-4 last season and returned six players who started 10 or more games, head coach Jason O'Keefe witnessed some good play from his young squad that was seeing its first competition against another collegiate program.

"It was a great opportunity to play against a very experienced, well coached and talented team in Radford," O'Keefe stated. "We played 23 of our 25 healthy players and had some really good moments. It was great for so many guys to get a taste of college soccer. We learned a great deal from tonight, and it will make us better. We will recover and get ready for another big challenge versus Campbell in our final dress rehearsal."

The Mountaineers will face their second Big South foe in as many exhibitions on Saturday at 5 p.m. in the Camels at Ted Mack. Campbell is a formidable opponent that was picked to finish third in its league while collecting one first-place vote.
