DURHAM, N.C. – The Appalachian State women's track and field team placed sixth of the top-18 runners in the 5,000-meter run on Day 1 of the Duke Invitational.
Senior
Katelyn Butler (Corning, N.Y./Corning Painted Post) led the way across the finish line for the Apps, placing second with a new PR time of 17:35.94. Freshman
Samantha Kolor (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) was fourth in 17:46.35. Junior
Erin Jameson (Pfafftown, N.C./Reagan) finished 13
th in 18:12.12 and sophomore
Megan Scannell (Nottingham, N.H./Coe Brown Northwood Academy) was right behind in 14
th with a PR time of 18:14.64. Freshman
Sarah Hajnos (Apex, N.C./Apex) placed 16
th and senior
Kerry Leonard (Wilmington, N.C./Laney) was 18
th with times of 18:23.73 and 18:28.14, respectively. Hajnos' time is a new PR and Leonard's represents a new season-best.
In a field that featured over 90 runners, senior Hannah Ratcliffe (Duham, N.C./Durham School of the Arts) finished 26th overall in in a new PR time of 4:35.60 in the 1,500-meter run. Her time also ranks as the 10th fastest in the event in program history. Freshman
Annika Merkh (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddon Township) also clocked a new PR in the event with a time of 4:14.14.
In the pole vault, junior
Sofia San Miguel (Cary, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) finished fifth, clearing 11-9.75.
Freshman
Samara Gibson (Clayton, N.C./Corinth-Holders) recorded an eighth-place finish in the 100-meter dash in 12.20 seconds.
In preliminary action, junior
Imani Chapman (Raleigh, N.C./Sanderson) placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.27 seconds. With her time, Chapman qualifies for the finals tomorrow.
Day 2 of competition will begin with field events at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with running events set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
