WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Appalachian State men's golf team finished its third tournament of the spring Tuesday at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate, shooting a three-round team score of 894 (+54) good for 12th place out of 24 teams.
Junior
Alex Burris led the team in overall scoring, firing a 7-over 217 total to tie him for 11th out of 127 golfers. Burris also had the lowest round on the team this week with a 71 (+1) in the second round.
In the first round, the Mountaineers shot a 16-over 296 putting them tied for sixth place after day one. They would then finish with a 302 (+22) in the second round and another 296 in the final round placing them 12th in the final leaderboard.
Rounding out the top scorers on the team were freshman
Candler Rice at 224 (+14) and closely behind him sophomore
Tripp Summerlin carding a 226 (+16) three-day total.
Southern Illinois won the tournament shooting a team score of 862 (+22), four shots ahead of second place.
App State returns to the course April 9 (Monday) and April 10 (Tuesday) at the Wofford Invitational for its penultimate regular-season match before the Sun Belt Championship.
