BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University women's tennis (9-5) will host in-state foe UNC Greensboro on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Deer Valley Racquet Club.
The Mountaineers have won six of their last seven matches, which includes three victories over opponents from North Carolina. Since Feb. 10, Appalachian has captured 40 of the 49 available points in its contests.
App is also coming off of a dominant performance against in-state opponent NC Central, sweeping the Eagles 7-0. The Mountaineers captured all three doubles affairs. In singles, only one match was extended beyond the second set, where
Taylor Bygrave shook off a second set defeat to win her match 6-1, 1-6, 6-4.
Appalachian is now 46-33 in singles competition with four players having eight wins or more on the season. Bygrave has won three straight matches to lead the team with nine victories.
The Mountaineers have also excelled in doubles play, posting a 26-11 (.703) record.
Melissa Machado and
Teodora Sevo have become a formidable pairing, rattling off seven straight victories while holding a team-best 11-2 record.
Scouting UNC Greensboro
UNC Greensboro is 4-7 this season. The Spartans opened the season 3-2, but they have struggled since, dropping six of their last seven matches. Greensboro's four victories have all come over in-state opponents, including UNC Wilmington and UNC Asheville, both of whom Appalachian has also defeated this season. The Spartans' downed Western Carolina 4-3 on Saturday, which was their third 4-3 victory of the season. In singles play, Greensboro is 30-36 with Brianna Gomez leading the team with an 11-0 record. The Spartans have struggled in doubles, posting a 10-21 record.
