Men's Soccer Seeded Third in Sun Belt Championship

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's soccer (8-5-3) is seeded third in the 2018 Sun Belt Championship Tournament held in Statesboro, Ga.  at Erk Park.

Appalachian and GS will face off in the semifinal round on Friday at 7 p.m. for a chance to play in the championship game. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.

After a 3-0 Senior Day win over Howard on Saturday, the Mountaineers guaranteed their first winning season since 2012. Also, App's 2-1-1 mark is its first winning Sun Belt record and highest
finish at third since joining the league. The eight wins are tied for the most since 2015, and the most overall since 2011.

App State surpassed its win total from 2017 with a young group that features 25 underclassmen and 14 freshmen. The Mountaineers head into the postseason with the best defense in the Sun Belt, posting seven shutouts and allowing a league-best 12 goals.

The Mountaineers and Eagles are facing each other for the second straight postseason. Both teams came to a 0-0 draw, but GS escaped the first round with a victory after going 5-4 in penalty kicks. In a defensive battle this season, the game was scoreless until the Eagles won the contest with six seconds left.
