Mountaineers Set for Road Tilt at ECU

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Fresh of its second victory of the season, Appalachian State men's basketball will take on East Carolina in a road contest at 7 p.m. on Friday evening. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.

THE SERIES
  • This will be the 63rd all-time meeting between the two schools, with the Pirates holding a 35-27 lead in the series.
  • These teams last met in the 2012-13 season in Greenville, with ECU prevailing 82-72. Overall, East Carolina has won three of the last four meetings.
LAST TIME OUT
  • On Monday evening, the Mountaineers recorded their second win of the season by a 91-64 score over Winston-Salem State.
  • In all, six players scored at least seven points for App State. Isaac Johnson paced the Mountaineers with a game-high 19 points on 8-of-10 (80.0 percent) shooting, a game-high seven rebounds and a career-high six assists.
  • Adrian Delph added a career-high 18 points, including a 4-of-6 (66.7 percent) mark on three-pointers, and a career-best five rebounds.
  • Ronshad Shabazz finished with 10 points and a season-high tying five assists. Bennett Holley drained three triples and tallied a season-high nine points, while Tyrell Johnson and Hunter Seacat each had seven points.
  • The Black and Gold built a 20-point halftime lead and did not allow Winston-Salem State within 18 points in the second half.
  • The Mountaineers drained a season-best 15 three-pointers in the win and assisted on 18 off 33 made field goals.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
  • App State stands at 2-4 on the season and is averaging 86.6 points per game, which sits 22nd in the country. The Black and Gold are also shooting 43.0 percent from deep, which ranks 14th in the nation.
  • Ronshad Shabazz is averaging 17.7 points and has dished out a team-high 21 assists on the season. Over his last three games, Shabazz is averaging 21.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists
  • After his seven-rebound performance on Friday, Isaac Johnson has now pulled down seven or more rebounds in four of App State's six games this season.
  • Ronshad Shabazz currently ranks ninth all-time in points scored at 1,587. He is seven points shy of passing Rick Howe (1,593) for eighth place on the all-time scoring list. Shabazz is also 13 points shy of passing D.J. Thompson (1,599) for seventh place on the list.​​​​​​​
  • Tyrell Johnson currently sits in a tie for eighth place on the all-time list with 95 and is just one block shy of passing Chris McFarland (95) for sole possession of eighth place and two blocks shy of passing Isaac Butts (96) for seventh.
SCOUTING THE PIRATES
  • East Carolina fell 95-86 at UNC Wilmington on Tuesday evening to drop to 4-4 on the season.
  • Jayden Gardner tallied game-highs of 30 points and 15 rebounds (seven offensive) for the Pirates. Off the bench, Seth LeDay had 15 points and nine rebounds, while K.J. Davis added 13 points and seven rebounds.
  • On the season, Gardner leads the team in scoring (18.3 ppg), rebounding (8.4 rpg) and field goal percentage (.588).
  • Shawn Williams and LeDay are also averaging double figures for the Pirates at 13.7 points and 12.8 points, respectively.
UP NEXT
The Mountaineers will return to Boone for two consecutive home games.
