MOBILE, Ala. – Appalachian State men's cross country finished second at the Sun Belt Men's Cross Country Championships on Saturday in Mobile, Ala.
The Mountaineers tallied 76 points. UT Arlington won the team title with 66 points. Troy was third with 90 points and Coastal Carolina was fourth with 92 points.
Dakota Mendenhall and
Gable Dershem earned All-Sun Belt honors for the Black and Gold.
"I am really proud of
Dakota Mendenhall and
Gable Dershem," said head coach
Michael Curcio. "Dakota had a great performance in his first Sun Belt race and Gable overcame hamstring issues all season to post a strong finish today."
Mendenhall garnered in Second Team All-Sun Belt honors with a ninth-place finish in a PR time of 25:23.16.
Dershem earns his second consecutive All-Sun Belt honor, placing 11
th overall in a PR time of 25:36.34.
Ryan Brown was 17
th in a PR time of 25:50.16,
Collin Loy placed 19
th in 25:54.86 and
Michael Flanagan recorded a 20
th place finish with a time of 25:55.75.
Ben Cignarale was 26
th in 26:14.8 and
Isaac Benz placed 30
th in 26:24.2.
"The future looks bright for the program," added Curcio. "We have gained a wealth of experience these past two seasons and will continue to build our program."
With their second-place finish, the Mountaineers have now finished either first or second at the Sun Belt Championships four times since joining the conference in 2014.
