Mountaineers Set for Pivotal Sun Belt Showdown at Georgia Southern

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's soccer (7-4-3, 1-0-1 SBC ) faces Georgia Southern (5-5-3, 1-0-1 SBC) on Saturday evening at Erk Park. 

A Win for App State would
- Improve App's record to 8-4-3 and 2-0-1 in Sun Belt play
- Move to 5-3-1 on the road
- Improve to 16-18-1 in the all-time series against Georgia Southern

Previewing the Match
Saturday's matchup pits the top scoring team in the Sun Belt in Georgia Southern (1.62 goals per game) against the top defensive team in the Mountaineers, who are allowing just .74 goals per game. App has allowed multiple scores in just three contests and one or fewer goals in 11 contests, while GS is undefeated (7-0-1) when tallying multiple goals. Saturday's matchup features three of the top five scorers in the league as well with Javier Carbonell (1st - 13 goals), Adam Davie (T-3rd - 5 goals) and Camden Holbrook (T-3rd - 5 goals). 

About the Mountaineers
App State is coming off a 2-0 setback to Presbyterian. The Mountaineers are in the thick of the Sun Belt race for the top seed and a regular season conference championship. Saturday's matchup is a crucial contest, as both teams are tied for four points, while Georgia State is first with five points at 1-0-2. The Mountaineers tied with the Panthers and upset the then-No. 22 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.

Camden Holbrook still leads the Mountaineers with five goals and one assist for a team-high 11 points. Ian Bennett is second on the team in points with a career-high six points. Bennett is the only player on the team with multiple goals and multiple assists. Juan Hernandez leads the with three assists. 

Scouting Georgia Southern
The Eagles are coming off back-to-back 1-1 draws against UAB and Georgia State, respectively. Leading GS on offense is Carbonell and Davies with 18 of GS' 21 goals. Jokull 
Blaengsson has been the goalkeeper for the Eagles, starting in all 13 matches. He has a 1.39 goals against average and a .716 save percentage. 

Series History
GS leads the series history at 16-18-1. Appalachian fell to the Eagles twice last season and in the opening round of the Sun Belt Tournament in PK's, 5-4. App State's last win over its archrival was in 2011. 

What's Next 
App State will end the regular season next Saturday, Nov. 3 against Howard at home for Senior Day at 7 p.m.
