RALEIGH, N.C. -- Appalachian State University men's soccer put forth a gritty effort in a 0-0 draw in a road exhibition on Sunday evening against NC State at Dail Soccer Stadium.
Jake Chasteen and
Mitch Kilmer put together a combined shutout while Chasteen got the start. Kilmer played the final 29:45 of the contest and collected all three saves in the second half, including two big ones at the 88:12 and 89:37 mark that would have given the Wolf Pack a 1-0 lead.
NC State held the advantage in shots, 8-4, and shots on goal, 3-0. Two of Appalachian's shot attempts came from
Raheem Somersall, and
Austin Hill /
Parker Washburn each fired away an attempt.
The Mountaineers were able to see almost the entire roster get some minutes on the field against a talented team from a Power 5 school.
"It was a good exhibition and test on the road against a talented ACC team," head coach
Jason O'Keefe said. "I was proud of the team's effort and focus for 90 minutes. We played every healthy student-athlete and bent several times but didn't' break. We will build off this and get back to work tomorrow."
App will host its annual Black and Gold exhibition contest at Ted Mackorell Stadium on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
