Mountaineers Fend Off UNCA, 5-2

ASHEVILLE, N.C.- The Appalachian State men's tennis team captured its first road win of the season at Asheville Racquet Club on Saturday against UNCA, 5-2. This marks the third win in a row for the Black and Gold.

The Apps notched the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches resulting in the doubles point going to the Mountaineers.

Jack Maddocks and Scott Webster led off the victorious afternoon for the Apps after beating Henry Patten and Joshua Swindler, 6-3.

At No. 2 doubles, Milo Bargeron and Trey Morris improved to 3-0 as a tandem this season by knocking off James Massie and Andrew Sinai, 6-0. At No. 3, Alex Pavkovich and Alex Brea fell to Olly Cull and Reid Dillon, 6-0.

Webster suffered his first loss of the season to Henry Patton, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 1 singles.

The Mountaineers were able to capture the next four singles point with Pavkovich clinching the fifth point.

Maddocks battled with Swindler the entire match and came out on top, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Morris also went into the third set and he improved to 3-0 on the season in singles play against Cull, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

In No. 4 singles, Bargeron beat Sinai in straight sets, 7-6, 7-6. He now improves to 3-1 in the spring slate.

Pavkovich was able to fend off the Bulldog's Dillon, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, and captured his second singles win of the season.

Brea battled at the No. 6 spot, but eventually fell to Massie, 4-6, 6-2, 10-4.

The Mountaineers look to extend its win streak to four on Saturday, February 11th on the road against Richmond.
