BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's track and field competed at the Appalachian Split Track Meet, their last track competition before the conference championships, Friday night in Boone.
At the Holmes Center, seven athletes competed on the 300-meter track, and three Mountaineers won their events. In the 55 meters, Antonio Marcano Jr. and Jordan Johnson flashed to the end line in first and second respectively and clocked personal bests of 6.36 and 6.41. Andrew Spear ran in two events placing second in the 400 meters with a time of 51.64 and clearing all hurdles on the 55-meter straightaway in 8.23. Grabbing the 400-meter title was Jaxon Roberts who dashed across the line in 51.23. Lastly, in the 800 meters, App finished in the top four spots with Sean Doyle coming in second (1:59.52), Collin Loy landing in third (2:03.20) and Ryan Shannon placing fourth (2:06.58).
In Varsity Gym, four student-athletes competed in the field events, and Matt Layne highlighted the day clearing the bar at 14-1.25 (4.30m) to land in the third, his best performance of the season.
