Mountaineers Fall at East Carolina

GREENVILLE, N.C.- The Appalachian State men's tennis team fell to a one-loss Eastern Carolina team on Sunday at the ECU Indoor Tennis Facility, 4-1.

The Pirates claimed three singles matches and the doubles point to improve to 7-1 on the season.

In the No. 1 slot, Scott Webster was the lone Mountaineer to record a point for the Apps on Sunday afternoon as he defeated Freddie McGeehan 6-4, 6-3, for his third singles win of the season. Webster's win tied the match at 1-apiece, but ECU went on to win the next three singles contests.

Both doubles matches were won by the Pirates, as the No. 1 pairing in Webster and Jack Maddocks fell to McGeehan and Kasey Countee, 6-4. Trey Morris and Milo Bargeron fell to Fredric Lehfeldt and Vlad Anghel, 6-0.

In No. 2 singles, Maddocks battled hard against Anghel, as he took both sets into the tiebreaker, but came up short 7-5, 7-6 (2-0).

Morris was also able to bring both of the sets into the tiebreaker in the No. 3 singles match, but each set Georgi claimed as he won the match, 7-5, 7-6 (3-0).

No. 5 singles was the only other match that finished with Stone falling to Countee 6-4, 6-3.

In the No. 6 slot, Pavkovich and Javier Renones were just into their first set with Renones up 5-4 when the match was called.

Two of the singles matches went unfinished while one doubles contest didn't finish.

The Apps look to bounce back next weekend in Myrtle Beach, S.C. against Campbell on Saturday, Feb. 18 hosted by Coastal Carolina. Appalachian will face the Chanticleers the following day at 11 a.m.
