Volleyball Continues SBC Play in Georgia

BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State volleyball travels to Georgia this weekend for two SBC matchups on Friday, Nov. 3, and Saturday, Nov. 4. The Mountaineers will play the Georgia Southern Eagles on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and the Georgia State Panthers at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
 
App State looks to further a winning streak in the Sun Belt on Friday, Nov. 3 against Georgia Southern. The last meeting for these two teams this season was Oct. 8 when App State defeated Georgia Southern in four sets. Since then, App State has won against SBC opponents ULM and Troy, bringing the SBC record to 4-8 and 9-17 overall.
 
On Saturday, App State will compete against Georgia State. Their previous meeting this season ended in a 2-3 loss for the Mountaineers at home. App State is 5-7 in series history with the Panthers, but the Mountaineers hope to make it 6-7 after this weekend.
 
Melissa McMath leads with 329 kills on the season with Lexi Kohut not far behind with 293 kills. Ashlyn Brown now has over 1,000 assists with 1,065, and Olivia Loeffler has 431 digs.
 
Another Look at the Georgia Southern Eagles
Georgia Southern has won only one SBC match against Troy since losing to the Mountaineers on Oct. 8. They are 3-9 in SBC play, ranking one above Georgia State as fifth in the East Division for the SBC.
 
In the last match against Georgia Southern, Catherine Murray led with 12 kills, April Luther had 46 assists, and Joscelin Morrow had 19 digs. The Mountaineer leaders were Melissa McMath with 28 kills, Ashlyn Brown with 56 assists, and Olivia Loeffler with 18 digs.
 
Another Look at the Georgia State Panthers
Since their last meeting with App State this season, Georgia State has lost seven straight SBC matches with their most recent at Little Rock on Oct. 28. They are 2-10 in the Sun Belt and 8-17 overall, which brings them to rank sixth in the East Division of the SBC.
 
In the last matchup with App State, Georgia State leaders included Crystal Lee with 17 kills, Sara Renner with 39 assists, and Celeste Friesen with 35 digs. The Mountaineers who stood out were Lexi Kohut with 20 kills, Ashlyn Brown with 50 assists, and Olivia Loeffler with 32 digs.
