BOONE, N.C. -
Morgan Mosack nabbed her first goal of the season, but it wasn't enough as Appalachian State University women's soccer (2-9-3, 1-4-1 SBC) suffered a 2-1 setback to Georgia Southern (5-6-1, 3-3-0 SBC) on Friday evening at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.
Trailing 1-0 after Asha Vilaythong gave GS a 1-0 lead early in the first half, the Apps fought back later in the second stanza to tie things up when Mosack took advantage of the penalty kick that App received in the 71st minute. Mosack collected the third goal of her career, while she ended the night leading the team with five shots and two shots on goal.
However, the visitors retook the lead four minutes later when Sarah Price got off a shot attempt from close range to give GS a 2-1 advantage. Appalachian fired away two more attempts in the last 15 minutes of the contest including a shot from
Emmily Cowie that was on the mark, but Laurin Karinshak mustered up the save.
Cowie and Mosack combined for four of the five shots on goal and
Sharon Osterbind registered a chance on the frame as well.
Taylor Ray started between the posts playing all 90 minutes to go along with two saves.
App will return to action next Friday at 8 p.m. (EST) against Little Rock on the road.
