BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's tennis (2-2) starts an 11-match road trip on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Johnson City, Tenn. at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex against ETSU (2-3).
The Mountaineers are coming off a narrow 4-3 loss in their home opener to UNC Asheville. App State swept the doubles competition with

Trey Morris all picking up hard fought wins.
However, the Bulldogs recorded four out of six singles victories to pick up the win. Webster played in his first match of the season at the No. 3 in the lineup, and recorded a 7-5, 6-1 win over his counterpart. Morris also notched the other triumph in singles play at the six spot in the rotation, 6-1, 6-4.
Through the first four games of the season, Morris boasts a team-best 2-1 record in singles play while also owning a 2-1 mark with Bost. The Casey and Maddocks duo has worked out well with a 2-0 mark, and Kleynhans/Webster are 1-0. The Black and Gold are 6-1 in doubles play overall, while just 8-10 in singles play.
ETSU has won its last two matches with victories over Penn (4-3) and Portland (6-1). All three of the Bucs' losses have been against opponents ranked higher than 45 in the ITA/Oracle Rankings, including a setback against No. 11 Wake Forest.
In last season's contest against ETSU, the Bucs were one of three ranked teams App State went up against coming in at 63rd. The Bucs were too much in a 7-0 defeat over App State.
Webster was the lone student-athlete to take his singles match past two sets, losing in a tough tiebreaker, 7-6, 0-6, 10-7. All three doubles contests would go into extra points.
Appalachian will continue the road trip next Friday, Fe. 12 at USC Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C. at 12 p.m.
