Men's T&F Wins the Marshall Invitational

HUNTINGTON, W.V. - Appalachian State University men's track and field put on quite the showing on Friday and Saturday as it won the Chipotle Marshall Invitational and did so with 170 points.

The Mountaineers won four events and turned in a top-three finisher 13 times in a meet that scored 16 events total. Wake Forest came in second with with 120 points while Duquesne rounded out the top three with a score of 101.

Russell Price won an event for the first time in his collegiate career with the 60-meter dash (7.01), Ryan Hastings took first in the 800 with a facility/personal best time of 1:51.77, Phillip Thomas won the pole vault (16-0.75), and Isaiah Relliford took first in the triple jump (46-9/first-career win).

Second-place finishers included Trey Edgerton, Peter Ovendorf, Stanley Broaden, and Hastings in the 4x400 (3:20.19), Nathan Milch in the shot put (54-8.75) and John Leonard in the weight throw (60-2.5).

As far as those that placed third, they included Marshall McRae in the 200 (22.38), newcomer Andrew Harris in the 800 (1:53.18), Michael Ellis in the 3,000 (8:26.47), Broaden in the 60-meter hurdles (8.07), Michael Utecht in the pole vault (15-7), and Milch in the weight throw (56-6.75).

Next up, the Black and Gold will host the App State Pre-Conference Open Friday, Feb. 19.
