CLINTON, S.C. - Appalachian State University men's tennis won its second match in row Saturday, downing Presbyterian College 4-3 on the road.
The Black and Gold (2-1) won all three doubles matches while splitting singles, 3-3.
“I'm really proud of our team and what they did today,” said head coach Bob Lake. “This was another good match for us and I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do tomorrow back at home.”
The tandem of Jack Maddocks and Oliver Casey handed the Blue Hose's (0-4) Joel Roberts and Ben Kelley a convincing loss at the No. 1 pairing, 6-2. Jan-Willem Kleynhans and Scott Webster continued the momentum for the Mountaineers after a 7-5 win over Brandon Mills and Danny Bruce, giving App the 1-0 lead.
Zach Bost and Trey Morris played out the final doubles match, finishing off the sweep by winning the No. 3 spot, 7-5, over Will Baird and Diego Manzanas.
App State started the singles matches strong as well, as Casey won the No. 1 position in convincing fashion over Bruce 6-1, 6-3, while Webster took the No. 3 spot with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Manzanas.
Maddocks sealed the match win for Appalachian State, finishing off a come-from-behind victory at the No. 2, defeating Alejandro Bejar 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Despite the win for the Mountaineers, the rest of the singles matches were played out as well.
Kleynhans dropped a back-and-forth affair at the No. 4 position to Roberts, 6-3, 6-7, 6-1, before Bost fell to Mills, 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 5. The final match of the day came at the No. 6 spot, as Morris closed out to match, falling 6-3, 6-3 to Kelley.
The Mountaineers will look to extend its win streak to three as they face off against UNC Asheville tomorrow. First serve is scheduled for noon.
