Boone, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's track and field turned in a solid showing on Saturday when it hosted the Mountaineer Open and won 10 events while earning both first and second place in six of them.
For field events, Appalachian won the weight throw, shot put, high jump, and the pole vault. On the Holmes Center track, the Black and Gold were the first to finish in the 55-meter hurdles, 55-meter dash, 300, 4x300, 500, and mile.
Nathan Milch was the top finisher for both the weight throw (56-3.75) and the shot put (52-0), while newcomer Nick Hinton won the high jump (6-4.25) and Phillip Thomas the pole vault (15-7.25).
Freshman Andrew Spear turned in the best time for the 55-meter hurdles (7.94) and William Buckley did so for the 55-meter dash (6.45). Ryan Hastings won an event for the fourth time in as many meets, this time with the 500 (1:04.58). He was also part of the 4x3 time that took first place (2:26.48) and included Trey Edgerton, Garrett Hammonds and Spear.
Edgerton also won the 300 (36.02) and Evan Laratta was clocked with the fastest mile time of 4:30.35.
Next up, the Apps will travel to ETSU for the second time this season as part of the Buccaneer Invitational on Feb. 5-6 in Johnson City, Tenn.
