This year's countdown begins on Monday, July 6 and will continue until Tuesday, August 4, the opening day of Appalachian State football's fall camp.

Mountaineers Beat Trojans in Five-Set Thriller

TROY, Ala. - Appalachian State University volleyball took the match against Troy on Sunday afternoon in five sets, featuring scores of 25-20, 25-23, 17-25, 20-25 and 15-12.
The Mountaineers (13-0, 3-0 Sun Belt) won the first two sets, but the Trojans (9-6, 1-2 Sun Belt) would tie the match up, forcing it into five sets before the Apps got the win.
The first set began closely until Appalachian scored five-straight points to take a 12-8 lead. The Mountaineers continued to score, leading by at least three points for the rest of the set.
A kill from Emily Corrigan helped the Mountaineers to a 25-20 first set victory.
The Mountaineers immediately took control of the second set, jumping out to a 10-4 lead. After a Troy timeout the Trojans would begin to chip away at the lead, soon only trailing by two points, but Appalachian were able to find kills, taking a 21-16 lead.
The Trojans caught up toward the end of the set to trail 23-21 but the Mountaineets pulled off the second set win, 25-23.
Troy started the third set in control, taking an early 9-5 lead. Appalachian made several attack errors and were not able to catch up to the Trojans, never coming within more than four points for the rest of the set.
Troy took the third 25-17.
The Trojans once again began the fourth set with dominance, leading App with a score of 6-1. The Mountaineers were able to put some more points on the board, but not enough to keep up with the Trojans as they trailed 16-8.
The Mountaineers finally found kills to come within two points at the end of the set, but it was not enough as Troy took the fourth 25-20 and tied the match 2-2.
The Apps took a quick lead in the fifth and final set, but Troy was not going away, only trailing by one point for most of the set. With App leading 11-10 the Mountaineers took control, scoring four of the last six points to get the win 15-12 and win the match 3-2.
Corrigan led the team with 24 kills, while Lauren Gray followed with 13. Paige Brown had a great showing, assisting 52 kills in the win.
The Mountaineers had a great defensive match as Corrigan led with 24 digs. Meghan Mahoney and Kati Stammen each recorded 19 digs, a career high for Stammen. Olivia Loeffler recorded a career high of 18 digs, while Brown followed with 11.
The Trojans were led by Symone Shaw's 16 kills and Ali Dowdall's 25 digs.
The Mountaineers hit .129 on the match whle the Trojans hit .164. Each team tallied 11 blocks.
The Apps return to action when they travel to UL Lafayette next Friday for a 8 p.m. match.
