TROY, Ala. – Appalachian State University men's tennis dominated singles play and rallied past New Orleans, 5-2, in a neutral-site match at Troy on Saturday.
The Mountaineers (7-9) fell behind early when the Privateers (6-9) grabbed the doubles point, but were able to storm back in singles play by winning five of six matches to grab the win.
Doubles play featured three highly-competitive contests as Appalachian's No. 2 tandem of Jack Maddocks/Scott Webster grabbed an 8-6 win. However, UNO grabbed an 8-6 win at No. 1 and an 8-7 win at No. 3 to take the doubles point and an early 1-0 lead.
Appalachian would rally in singles play, winning five contests in straight sets. Oliver Casey was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at No. 1 while Maddocks picked up a win at No. 2 (6-3, 6-3). Zach Bost was a 7-6, 6-4 winner at the No. 4 spot and Jan-Willem Kleynhans clinched the win with his 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 5.
Trey Morris put an exclamation point on the contest as he finished as a 6-2, 6-4 winner at the No. 6 position.
The Mountaineers return home on Tuesday when they host former Southern Conference rival UNCG at 2:30 p.m. at the Appalachian Tennis Courts.
