Men's Tennis Falls to No. 57 Troy

TROY, Ala. – Scott Webster earned his team-best 13th win of the season, but Appalachian State University men's tennis was unable to pick up another point as it fell to No. 57 Troy, 6-1, on Friday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.

The Mountaineers (6-9) narrowly dropped the doubles point as the Trojans (18-5) picked up their eighth-straight victory.

Appalachian's top doubles pairing of Oliver Casey/Jan-Willem Kleynhans suffered a 6-1 defeat and Troy clinched the point when its No. 3 duo topped the Mountaineer tandem of Zach Bost/Trey Morris by a narrow 7-5 score. Webster and fellow Australian Jack Maddocks were tied 6-6 at No. 2 doubles, but the match went unfinished as Troy had clinched the point.

In singles play, the Trojans rolled to straight-set wins at No. 2, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to take clinch the match and take a commanding 5-1 lead. Webster got Appalachian State on the board with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3 and Casey suffered a hard-fought loss at No. 1 (6-1, 4-6, 10-8).

The Mountaineers wrap up the weekend on Saturday when they square off with New Orleans at 10 a.m.. Appalachian was slated to play South Carolina State on the same day, but the contest has been canceled.
