DELAND, Fla. – Appalachian State University men's tennis earned three singles wins, but lost the critical doubles point in a 4-3 loss at Stetson on Tuesday,
The Mountaineers (4-8) picked up victories at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 singles, but the Hatters (6-6) cruised to a win at No. 1 doubles and grabbed hard-fought wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to earn the early momentum and the match victory.
Jack Maddocks earned a point for the Mountaineers at No. 2 singles with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 win while Scott Webster was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at No. 3. Trey Morris earned a point with a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
Appalachian also challenged at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, sending both to crucial third sets, but Stetson's sweep in doubles proved to be the difference.
The Mountaineers return to action on Wednesday when they wrap up their trip to Florida with a match at Bethune-Cookman.
