ROCK HILL, S.C. – Despite losing each of the top three singles matches, Appalachian State University men's tennis was able to battle back from a 3-1 deficit to pick up a 4-3 win over New Jersey Institute of Technology on Saturday.

The Mountaineers (4-4) earned the doubles point before the Highlanders (4-3) grabbed three-straight singles wins, but Appalachian was able to sweep singles contests at the bottom of the lineup en route to the win.

App State's No. 1 doubles tandem of Zach Bost and Jan-Willem Kleynhans took a 6-2 win while the No. 3 duo of Oliver Casey and Trey Morris clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory.

In singles played, NJIT raced out to three quick victories, all in straight sets. Scott Webster got a point back for the Apps when he snagged a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 before Kleynhans tied it up (3-3) with an easy 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.

It all came down to Morris, who battled through a grueling three-set match at No. 5, but eventually prevailed by a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 to give the Mountaineers the match-winning point.

Appalachian State returns to action next weekend when it faces Richmond (Feb. 28) and East Carolina (March 1). Both matches are schedule to be played at 11 a.m. in Greenville, N.C.
